Explore Holmen
The district Holmen in Copenhagen consists of six artificial islands, created from soil and mud and garbage from the streets of the city. For 300 years it was the main base of the Danish navy, but since the late 1990s, Holmen has become a new Copenhagen neighborhood with housing, Opera house, and a creative campus. And the urban development continues.
Join us for a guided tour of the southern part of Holmen and learn about the history of the area and what is going on there today. We will visit the newest parts of the district, The Paper Island and The Opera Park. But the tour will also take you to listed, refurbished, and reused buildings from the time of the navy, buildings as Kanonbådsskurene (the Gunboat Sheds) and The Torpedo Hall. And your guide will share a story or two with you from the time when Holmen was the biggest workplace in Denmark.
