The Road to Permanent Residency and the role of Danish

Are you considering a longer stay in Denmark or even future settlement?
Are you curious about how to achieve permanent residency and what steps you should prepare for now? Then this 2-hour seminar is for you.

In this 1.5-hour session (including time for questions), our speakers from the Ministry of Immigration and Integration will provide a clear and practical overview of the pathway to permanent residency in Denmark, including the general and supplementary requirements – such as Danish language skills - that many international employees begin to meet after four years in the country.

The session is targeted all non-EU international staff with a PhD or Work Scheme residence permit.

We will cover key topics such as:

  • What to keep in mind if you hope to stay long-term or settle permanently
  • How interruptions in your stay – such as secondments or fieldwork abroad - may affect your residency timeline
  • What counts as full-time employment, especially during job-seeking periods
  • When and how you can submit your application
  • What the process looks like and what documents to prepare
  • KU’s role as your employer in the application process
  • How to resume Danish classes after a longer break
  • Information about the free Danish Language Education Programme, as well as other free or affordable options for Danish tuition
