WEBINAR: Not Done with Danish? How to Continue Learning After 5+ Years in Denmark

Have you been living in Denmark for more than five years and therefore lost your right to free, municipality-funded Danish lessons? Are you interested in starting - or resuming - your Danish language learning journey?

If so, this webinar may be of interest to you.

Even after the five-year period has passed, there are still several ways to continue developing your Danish language skills. The best way forward depends on your current circumstances, personal aspirations, and the nature of your role at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH).

This one-hour webinar will present a range of options for learning Danish beyond the initial 5-year period, including both free and affordable alternatives.

The aim is to help you make an informed decision about the next steps in your language learning journey.

Who can attend?
This webinar is open to all international employees at UCPH. Please feel free to share the invitation with your colleagues.

Registration is required. A calendar invitation, including a Zoom link, will be sent to you a few days in advance.

Topics to be covered include:

  • Requesting an Extension for Free Danish Education:
    In some cases, the municipality can grant you an extension of the five-year period through your local municipality. Learn how and what to do.
  • Self-Funded Participation in the Official Danish Education Programme:
    In situations where you are no longer eligible for free Danish language lessons, you can still enrol in the official programme at your own expense. This is often the most affordable of the paid options.
  • Private or Semi-Private Danish Tution Funded by Your Department:
    If Danish is, or is expected to become, part of your daily work at UCPH, your department may be able to fund private tuition as stated in the official Language Policy
  • FVU (Forberedende Voksenundervisning):
    A free Danish language programme for adults. Please note that a minimum proficiency level of B2 is required in order to enrol.
  • Free Danish Practice Initiatives at UCPH:
    Get an overview of the informal groups at UCPH where you can practise speaking Danish with fellow researchers and staff members.
  • Motivation and Regaining Momentum After a Break:
    Taking a break from language learning is common, especially when balancing professional and personal responsibilities. We will also discuss how to regain your motivation and rebuild your confidence in using Danish, even after a long pause.
