Employee gets Danish Bank account

You can apply to open a Danish bank account when you have registered your CPR number and received a MitID login. To apply, find a Danish bank of your choosing and submit the following information: 1. CPR number, 2. Yellow health insurance card, 3. Passport or National ID card, and 4. Letter of employment. Make sure to apply for a Danish bank account as soon as possible, as the processing time, in general, is long.

You can also apply for a ‘basic payment account’ instead of a regular bank account. If you do so, then the processing time must only take 10 working days. Before applying for such an account, make sure to talk to the bank about the different services and fees connected to this type of account.

All residents in Denmark are required to have a ‘NemKonto’ to be able to receive a salary and payments from the Danish public authorities. A NemKonto is a normal bank account that you assign as your NemKonto. Your bank can help you assign a specific bank account as your Nemkonto.

Most Danish residence and work permits granted after 1 January 2021 will be conditioned on payment of salary to a Danish bank account. The Danish bank account must be opened no later than 90 days after the date of being granted a Danish residence and work permit or 90 days after the employee enters Denmark, whichever happens last.
