DANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE WORKSHOP

The benefits of learning Danish! How to go about it and where to start?

As a beginner on your quest towards mastering Danish, you might be weighing whether you have sufficient reasons to learn the language. Maybe you are wondering, why even learn Danish when most people speak English in this country?

Perhaps you just moved to Denmark and want to find out more information about the language and Danish culture, before making the decision to actually begin learning it.

Maybe you are an aspiring linguist who just likes the sound of Danish and may be considering staying in Denmark for a longer period and you just want to know if it's worth learning. That is cool. All reasons are perfectly valid!

Benefits of learning Danish

It is true that Danish is a rather small European language. With less than 6 million speakers all over the world, Danish cannot reach such widespread languages like English or Spanish. However, there are many compelling reasons to learn Danish, which this workshop is all about, e.g.:

  • The biggest benefits to learning Danish are that you can connect on a much closer level to the country and culture of Denmark and its people
  • Most jobs require, especially in customer-facing roles, at least basic Danish in order to be considered for these positions.
  • Understanding and speaking basic Danish opens many interesting career opportunities

Please feel free to join this fun, informal and interactive workshop, which breaks down the process of learning Danish and its many benefits.

Some of the questions we will be addressing during the workshop include:

  • How can I better understand this country with its people and culture?
  • What is hygge?
  • How to kick-start learning Danish?
  • How can I meet people and improve my life quality in Denmark?

About Ervin Mariager

Ervin is an experienced Danish language teacher. Since 2015, he has taught and supported countless of internationals from all over the world through the Danish language education system. His many students are of all ages, professional backgrounds, and cultures. In this 3-hour workshop (including lunch) we will look at practical ways to inspire you in kick-starting your language journey in Denmark. We hope this workshop can inspire you towards mastering Danish in a fun and informal way that can help in your transition here. For more information about Ervin see: LinkedIn / Facebook / Instagram.

COMMUNICATION AND PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP

POWER PITCHING: Create connection through your personal elevator pitch!

Learn how to pitch so you and your ideas are heard and remembered!

Pitching is a powerful communication skill that is important to master in your career and personal life. Pitching can be used under many different circumstances and for different occasions. We typically use pitching for our work, and presentations, when we must convince a colleague or business partner about a new idea or a certain way of doing things.

Pitching is a discipline of its own! It is said that an idea is worth nothing without execution. A central part of the execution is to communicate your idea. In other words: it is not enough to have a good idea – you must also be able to sell it to others. You must convince, sell and communicate clearly to convey your message. Pitching is a discipline that enables you to present your idea concisely and convincingly, so that your idea, message, or product – no matter what it is – can reach the stars!

But how do you structure your pitch? What is the recipe for a good pitch? During this workshop, you will learn to convey yourself and your ideas through short, concrete, and catching pitches that ensure others understand and listen to your ideas.

When you’ve completed this workshop, you’ll be able to:

  • Write, review and perform a series of pitches of between 30 seconds and 2 minutes
  • Understand how hooks work, and how they can catch the audience in the first 10 seconds
  • Gain a greater understanding of your appearance regarding the use of voice, body language and other communication tools
  • Work with emotions and curiosity as a tool to present your idea, a project or yourself
  • Learn how to explain to colleagues, employers or acquaintances what you do and what you can help and offer
  • Understand triggers to help “sell yourself” at meetings, conferences, job interviews or at networking events

During the day

We will go through each of the three topics below and also provide the latest research in psychology and communication. This workshop will be highly interactive with discussions, cases and exercises.

We will work with the following:

  1. HOOKS: How do you make sure within the first 10 seconds that the listener keeps their attention on you, and maybe even buys into you and your idea?
  2. THE PROBLEM: Why are we in the situation we are in, how do we understand the world and challenges around us, and how do you ensure that the audience sees it from your perspective?
  3. THE SOLUTION: How do we find a solution together, why is your solution the right one, and how can it help us to the right results?

MENTAL HEALTH AND WELL BEEING WORKSHOP

Time Management: Mastering Your To-Do and Wish Lists

Many of us feel exhausted and stressed due to workload, time constraints, and mental pressures. While some of us know time and stress management tools in theory, it can be difficult to implement and stick to them for times long enough to show any or sufficient effect. In this workshop we will close the gap between theory and practice and learn how to apply tools and techniques from planning future tasks to executing them in the moment. As a result, we shall feel empowered, more effective, and less stressed.

Together, we will:

  • Cultivate a more positive outlook on time management and to-do lists
  • Explore methods to improve and sustain focus
  • Feel equipped with practical tools to handle tasks more efficiently
  • Enable integration of work on personal/professional passion projects
  • Foster the implementation of habits that can ultimately reduce stress levels

What you will gain from participating:

  • Knowledge regarding different time and stress management tools
  • Ability to implement these tools step by step
  • A better overview of their tasks
  • Greater feeling of self-efficacy

Witnessing the positive changes in her life has fuelled her heartfelt desire to share her experiences with others and show them that they can have more control than they currently realise. Applying these tools has among other things allowed her to finish her PhD without stress and start a podcast, in which she gives PhD students and young researchers a voice and where she and other share useful tips on managing academic careers.
